white paper
The paper examines the process of technology
innovation and whether highly specialized vertical markets offer
an environment conducive to innovation.
Innovation is well promoted in the technology-friendly
environment of
high-tech markets. In highly specialized vertical markets, however,
technology products are typically scoped up by domain experts,
who understand all processes within these markets. Typically,
these experts will know how to assemble a complete solution, but
are fairly removed from technology innovation. As a result, most
vertical solutions are built as a "me too" products. The
competitive advantages frequently are concentrated on additional
capabilities and not on leveraging technology.
Is there then a climate for innovation in
vertical markets?
The answer is yes, and the paper examines various solutions.
